Magic Leap announces a significant development investment into VIM

Alpharetta, GA, February 21, 2019

Magic Leap announced today that they have awarded VIM AEC a significant investment to continue their development for Magic Leap’s spatial computing platform. VIM , the creator of VIM (Virtual Information Modeling), is developing next generation real-time immersive technology for AEC to power mixed reality experiences that seamlessly blend the digital and physical world. This is a breakthrough for the AEC (Architectural, Engineering and Construction) Industry.

Stacy Scopano, CTO at Skender and a leader in emerging AEC technologies, was instrumental in collaborating with Magic Leap and VIM AEC to validate the Magic Leap and VIM AEC partnership. He furthermore explains this as, “AEC scarcity remains the dirty little secret of VR/AR. We’ve gotten past the utility of the innovations, we continue to debate the elegance of the technology, but the process is still painful to create each and every experience. VIM AEC dramatically increases pipeline efficiency, which moves the needle on how easy (and often) we’ll be creating real-time immersive experiences.”

Magic Leap is an American startup company that is working on a head-mounted virtual retinal display, called Magic Leap One, which superimposes 3D computer-generated imagery over real world objects, by “projecting a digital light field into the user’s eye”, involving technologies potentially suited to applications in augmented reality and computer vision. It is attempting to construct a light-field chip using silicon photonics.
